Wine Review: Two Sisters 2019 Sauvignon Blanc
You know what the trouble with Two Sisters wines is? The bottles seem to keep hitting empty before I remember to write a review! Oops! They are just too good.
Guess that means I’ll have to order another case in the future….
But luckily, I managed to restrain myself enough to save one final glass for this review.
(I usually prefer to write my tasting notes on the first glass, but, hey, we ain’t perfect. )
Tonight I pulled this one out of my wine rack to pair with a simple dinner: baked chicken breast and a simple salad with blue cheese dressing. I chose this wine because I figured it would pair well with the creamy dressing, having enough acidity to cut through the creaminess, while also being rich enough in flavour to stand up against the spices I was using on the chicken.
Well, let me tell you, it did not disappoint.
My fiancé had a few glasses too and even he commented on how much he LOVED the wine. He actually said he’s starting to prefer wine over beer now, because I keep spoiling him with excellent wines (*humble brag*).
So, without further adieu, let’s taste it!
THE LOOK
This wine is a really elegant pale gold shade. You’d never suspect from how sheer it is in the glass that it’s absolutely exploding with flavour.
THE AROMAS
For me, a Sauvignon Blanc always seems to have this beachy quality to it. Either tropical fruit, or salinity, or in this case, both. It literally smells like vacation.
I was getting medium intensity aromas of super ripe pineapple, mango, and papaya at first sniff. Then the brighter citrus notes started coming through with lemon-lime and some spicy grapefruit.
Salinity classic to the Niagara region was there too, as well as just a hint of green pepper. This isn’t an overly “green” Sauv Blanc – just the way I like it.
THE PALATE
Although the nose was medium in intensity, the palate was absolutely ROARING. Wow! It was incredibly flavourful, and even spicy. That grapefruit, and a hit of ginger, were really sending my taste buds for a loop.
The acidity also really stood out to me. It was so refreshing and crisp. Paired with the heavy concentration of fruit flavours, it made for the perfect balance. This is definitely a dry wine to be enjoyed on a hot beach.
Despite the high acidity and deceptively pale colour, I found it to have a medium body, likely due to the powerful flavours and 13% alcohol.
CONCLUSION
Overall, I would rank this wine as “outstanding”, with ease. The balance is exquisite, the finish didn’t taper until the 40 second mark, the flavours have amazing intensity, and the complexity is just delicious.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! If you’ve had it (or try it as a result of this review) let me know!
