Wine Review: 2019 Two Sisters “Margo” Rosé

The warm weather has finally hit Edmonton and I can feel spring right around the corner. To celebrate that, I’m cracking open a bottle of rosé!

It was perfect timing because I have been DYING to taste this visually stunning rosé from Two Sisters Vineyards. The bottle and label are absolutely gorgeous, and it’s the first rosé I’ve personally ever come across that is sealed with a cork.

(I’m actually so in love with the shape of this bottle that I might keep it to turn into some wine-themed craft later on… Anyone have any suggestions?)

It’s also worth noting that this wine was previously rated 92 points by Rick VanSickle and won the Silver Medal at the All Canadian Wine Championships in 2020.

Let’s have a sip together on the patio, shall we?

THE LOOK

I am head over heels in love with the colour of this wine. It’s a beautiful delicate salmon colour. Definitely more on the orange side of the rosé spectrum, but so pale it’s almost peachy. Like liquid rose gold.

THE AROMAS

This is a summer’s day in a glass. Juicy peaches, tart strawberries and rhubarb pie are all dancing up to meet my nose. There’s also the gentlest hint of honey, balanced by minerality.

The aromas are fairly pronounced for a rosé as well. You don’t have to work hard to pick them out.

It doesn’t say on the bottle so I did a quick Google search to learn that it’s composed of their estate-grown Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.

THE PALATE

The acidity is what jumps out at me. It’s incredibly refreshing on the palate, and deliciously mouth-watering.

The body is light, but man is that a lingering finish. It’s hard to sit here long enough to let it fade before taking another sip.

Although the fruit flavours make it seem sweet (those strawberry notes really pop on the palate), it’s actually a dry rosé (my favourite kind).

Finally, alcohol sits at 13%, which feels about right with that tingly/burning sensation hitting me mid-throat.

CONCLUSIONS

I think I’ve made it pretty clear how quickly I fell in love with this rosé, but we still need to do the critical evaluation of quality as well.

For balance, I love this. The acidity is the star of the show, but it certainly doesn’t throw things out of whack.

The length, as I mentioned before, is nice and long. It hit the 50 second mark before it dropped away.

Excellent intensity as well, as both the nose and the flavours had some distinct “oomf” to them and were easily recognizable, giving it a point for complexity as well.

This is a 5/5 for me! If you’re a dry rosé fan, or if you’re a sweet rosé fan looking to broader your tastes, this is an excellent choice. I ordered mine as part of a larger shipment direct from the winery (click here to do the same), but they are also open for tastings if you live in or are able to visit the Niagara-on-the-Lake area.

Which rosé bottles will you be opening in honour of spring? Let me know in the comments!
